Its location on what was then called Steamship Row meant that the massive Bowling Green Offices (1898) had to have contained many shipping-related companies, such as steamship lines, ship builders, and freight brokers. The crowd amassed in front of the building on the night of April 15 was there for news from one tenant: the White Star Line. It had just announced that its RMS Titanic had likely sunk.
