This Was Reservoir Square

Manhattan: Bryant Park/
Fifth Ave. between 40th and 42nd Sts.

Water from the Croton Aqueduct system started making its way from upstate New York to a large Egyptian temple-style distributing reservoir on this site in 1842. The above-ground reservoir was torn down around 1900 and the New York Public Library has been on the site since 1911.
