The Tree of Hope Was Here

Manhattan: Harlem/
East side of Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd (7th Ave.) between West 131st and 132nd Sts.

Actors named an elm that grew outside of the Lafayette Theater (demolished 2013) the "Tree of Hope." They would congregate near the tree, exchanging information about acting jobs. It was tradition to kiss the tree after landing a role.
