William Jenkins Worth is Interred Here

Manhattan: Madison Square/
Worth Square: 5th Ave., E 25th St., and Broadway

Worth, who had died eight years earlier, was reinterred after transfer from Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn. Famous then for his service in the Mexican War, he is perhaps better known today as the namesake of Fort Worth, Texas. Seven years after the memorial's construction, its sculptor, James Goodwin Batterson, founded the Travelers Insurance Company.
