The Victory Arch Model Stood Here

Manhattan: Madison Square/
Fifth Ave. and E 24th St.

Mayor Hylan pushed for a memorial here to honor the nation's war dead. A temporary version, modeled on the Arch of Constantine in Rome, was built but never executed in permanent materials. The model occupied the site of the temporary Dewey Arch, a project that suffered a similar fate 19 years earlier.
