The Savoy Ballroom Was Here

Manhattan: Harlem/
The east side of Lenox Avenue between West 140th and West 141st Sts.

The 'home of happy feet.' The Savoy Ballroom was one of the great epicenters of jazz until it closed in 1958. From its sounds to its dance innovation (think Stompin' at the Savoy) to the notion that people of all races could celebrate together, the Savoy broke ground.
