The Statue of Liberty Torch and Hand Were Installed Here

Manhattan: Madison Square/
Northwest corner of Madison Square Park

The right forearm of the Statue of Liberty was installed on a pedestal here after being on display at Philadelphia's U.S. Centennial Exposition. After this role, raising funds for its ultimate pedestal, it was sent back to Paris in 1882 to take its place on the fully assembled sculpture.
