The Prince Nursery Was Here

Queens: Flushing/
Northern and College Pt. Blvds. (then called Broadway and Lawrence St.)

This was Flushing Landing, where Robert Prince started North America's first commercial tree nursery in 1735. Secretary of State Jefferson visited in 1791 and purchased trees for Monticello, his home in Virginia. A year earlier Washington and Adams visited from lower Manhattan (which was then the capital).
