The Bronx: Pelham Bay Park/
Southern End of Pelham Bay Park
Julia Rice donated $1,000,000 to erect a stadium and recreational facility in memory of her late husband Isaac Leopold Rice, founder of the Electric Boat Company (now part of General Dynamics). The location for the Roman-inspired complex was originally set for Central Park's Great Lawn. In 1989, the crumbling, badly maintained structure was demolished, but a Louis St. Lannes sculpture, "American Boy," which had occupied a temple at the top of the grandstand, has since been restored and reinstalled on the site.
