Manhattan: Turtle Bay/
First Ave. between 42nd and 46th Sts.
First Avenue between 42nd and 46th Streets was the city's slaughterhouse and meat packing center until 1947. That industry was relocated to make way for the United Nations complex. The small windows on the First Avenue side of Tudor City, now facing the United Nations, were designed to minimize the previous, industrial view.
