The attic story of the U.S. Custom House (1909) features 12 sculptures representing seafaring powers (e.g., Holland, Portugal, and Venice). Due to anti-German sentiment during the first World War, Albert Jaegers' "Germany" was stripped of its Teutonic ornament and renamed Belgium.
