MLK Was Saved Here

Manhattan: Harlem/
Harlem Hospital, 506 Lenox Ave.

Three surgeons worked for 2-1/2 hours to save the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. from a stab wound. King had been attacked with a letter opener at his book signing at Blumstein's Department Store. The blade scraped the surface of his aorta, but King made a full recovery and was released almost two weeks later.
