This was Country, Blue Grass, and Blues and Other Music for Uplifting Gourmandizers, better known as CBGB. The music venue opened without much success in 1973 as a place for country music but recast itself as a successful rock club in 1974. The club witnessed the flowering of punk and new wave with performances by the likes of The Ramones, Patti Smith, Talking Heads, and Blondie. CBGB closed in 2006.
