This Was A.T. Stewart's Marble Palace

Manhattan: Civic Center/
280 Broadway

This building housed America's first department store from 1846 to 1862. It later served as the headquarters of the New York Sun newspaper from 1911 to 1950. The clock mounted on the second story of the building's Broadway and Chambers Street corner still carries the paper's slogan, "The Sun Shines for All."
