The World's Fair Bomb Was Found Here

Queens: Flushing Meadows-Corona Park/
Formerly Court Street, on the Lagoon of Nations

This was the site of the pavilion of "Great Britain and the British Colonial Empire," where a time bomb was planted on July 4, 1940. New York City Police Officers Joe Lynch and Freddy Socha took the bomb away to defuse it, but it exploded, killing them both. Their actions likely saved hundreds of fairgoers.
