Homer and Langley Collyer led lives increasingly isolated from the outside world. Over the years, the brothers collected 140 tons of furniture and other items in their four-story Harlem brownstone. In March 1947, Homer was found dead--the cause of death was starvation. Langley, who was thought to have fled, was found in the house later that month, crushed by one of the many booby traps he set for intruders.
